First ER Visit

My poor little guy is sick and I stayed home with him today. Early yesterday morning (around 2am), I took Jace to the emergency room. He's been running a low fever off and on since Sunday evening. Around 12:30am, I woke up to the sound of Jace breathing really loudly and a barking cough. I ran in his room to check on him and he was burning up. I stripped him down, his fever was 103.7, I gave him some Tylenol and put a cool washcloth on him. After almost an hour, he fever was only down to 103.3 and he sounded terrible so I decided to take him in. James stayed home with Avaree.

We got there and didn't have to wait long as soon as the RN in triage heard him. He could tell immediately he had croup. Once the doctor came in to see him, he quickly diagnosed him as having croup with stridor and an ear infection in his right ear. They gave us a dose of steroids (Decadron) to help with the inflammation in his throat and his first dose of an antibiotic (Amoxil) for his ears. He said there was nothing else they could do about the croup, just to keep the air he breathes cool and moist.
Other than the cough and breathing, he acted fine at the hospital. He smiled at the RN in triage and at the doctor when he walked in and he climbed all over the bed and wouldn't be still. We got home around 4am and Jace went right to bed.

He's feeling a little better, still running a low fever and his voice is hoarse. His coughing isn't that bad during the day, but it gets worse during the night. Hopefully he'll be back to normal soon!

Sick Boy

Our little man was sick last week. Saturday evening, while he was in his highchair eating his dinner, he started gagging and throwing up. He did that a few times. He acted perfectly fine once it was over so we cleaned him all up and got him ready for bed. I gave him his bottle and once he got done with that, it all came back up. He was still smiling, talking, and acting fine. I just assumed it was still the phlegm he's had in his throat, although he wasn't acting like he really wanted to eat. He went on to sleep and woke up at 4am. He never wakes up during the night so I knew he was hungry since his dinner and nighttime bottle came up. I fed him and as soon as I sat him up, it all came spewing out. Again, he acted fine and went on back to sleep. He woke up Sunday morning and I could tell he wasn't his normal self--he didn't act like he wanted a bottle or anything. I called and left a message for the doctor to call me. She called me back and said to give him 1 ounce of Pedialite every 30 minutes or so and see how well he keeps that down. If he keeps it all down by late that evening, to try formula again.

He did fine with the Pedialite, he kept it all down. He was hungry though and got mad when he got done with it because he wanted more.

 Eventually we started upping how much he was drinking each time. We decided to skip the solid food that day and gave him a bottle of formula that night. He did fine with it and slept all night. The next morning I gave him a bottle and he threw it up before he finished it, of course still smiling. He threw up another bottle later in the day so he just had Pedialite that evening.

After that, we just started giving him a little bit of formula at a time. We would do 2 ounces and if it stayed down, go up to 3 next time. He did four ounces for a day or so and for the last 4-5 days he's still taking 5 ounces. He hasn't gone back up to 6 yet. He could probably handle it now though. I don't know what was wrong with my little guy. I don't know if it was some kind of virus or what. His doctor (when we called again) said it could be reflux so she told us to try giving him Zantac again. We didn't do that and decided to just see what happens. He's been fine the past few days. Although a few times he has coughed until he threw up (Avaree did this and still does sometimes, and Mama said I did it as well). I hope it doesn't happen again, I feel so bad for him. Poor little guy didn't know what was going on.

Sick Baby

Our baby boy has his second cold, his first one was when he'd only been in daycare for less than a week. He was congested during the night Friday night and Saturday night. Sunday morning, he woke up with a runny nose, watery eyes, and a cough. He would cough up mucus and that would make him throw up. Poor little guy, he felt so bad. He was also running a low fever. Monday, he stayed home from daycare and he went to the doctor (he weighed 16 lb 12 oz!). We saw the nurse practitioner and she said he just has a cold and to do what we've been doing--humidifier at night, head elevated, suction his nose (she did say to use a saline spray which we are now doing), and to give him plenty of fluids. He's starting to feel a little better, still a little stopped up and still coughing.
He looks so pitiful!

We moved in!

We've been super busy lately, we're all moved into our new house! We love it! Everything is pretty much unpacked (except for our closet) and we're getting settled in. It's so nice to have room for everything and Avaree is loving her playroom. We've just gotta work on her keeping it clean. She and I haven't felt good the past few days so that's slowed me down in getting our closet unpacked and organized. She stayed out of school for 2 days with a fever, coughing, runny nose, and sneezing. Her fever got up to 103.6! I don't think she's ever had one that high. The doctor just said it was viral and it would go away on its own. For once, her ears were clear! I guess the third set of tubes in her ears are doing their job, along with having no tonsils and adenoids. The fever is gone but she's still coughing. I haven't had a fever but I've been coughing, sneezing, and my nose has been pouring. YUCK! I will be so glad when we're both back to normal!
