10 Weeks

Cloth Diaper Review: Part 1

We have been using cloth diapers since Jace's umbilical cord stump fell off at 5 weeks. We LOVE them! I didn't think I would like them as much as I do, and they are so easy! They're super easy to care for and we don't have any stains (lots of people have asked about that!). Plus, they don't have the wet diaper smell like disposables! We use cloth exclusively during the day when we're home, but we're still using disposables at night. I need to find a good night time solution for cloth because I'm tired of the disposables. He wakes up wet every morning from where they've leaked out. We have ventured out of the house with our cloth as well, even on our weekend trip to Albany. He wore a cloth diaper on the way there (almost 4 hours-he slept the whole way) and to my surprise, it didn't leak! I plan to use cloth full time (in and out of the house) and save disposables for daycare. It'd be nice if they used cloth as well, but I have a feeling they won't go for it.

I'm going to review and share pictures of the different cloth diapers we have. First off, here is our stash:

As of right now, we're pretty much set with what we need for full time cloth diapering, having to do cloth diaper laundry about every 3 days. Very soon though, he will grow out of the smalls, and we will have to either get mediums or more one-size (which will be more economical because they'll fit longer). My favorite place to order from is Kelly's Closet. Lately they've been having tons of free OS diaper promo codes so we've scored several free diapers!

Moving to the crib

We finally decided to start letting Jace sleep in his crib at night a few days ago. He naps in there during the day but he has slept in his bassinet in our room since we came home from the hospital. I'm sure he was ready, Mama-not so much! I think the first night I stared at the monitor watching him for half the night! He has done great, although he does cry out a few times and I'll get up and give him his paci and he goes right back to sleep. Tonight I'm going to wait a little longer and see if he can soothe himself and fall back asleep. We'll see how that goes, and if I can stand it!

 We've decided to forgo the sleep positioner and surprisingly he has still slept very well. He moves ALL OVER his crib, this morning he had turned all the way around and had his feet where I put his head last night. We've also stopped swaddling and have been using sleep sacks. They seem to be working well. He's even been sleeping a little later in the mornings, which is always a plus!

We have a rat!

I got the cheese out of the refrigerator to grate it the other night for tacos and I found this...

 Apparently we have a rat IN the refrigerator...and I think its name is Avaree!

9 Weeks

Daddy Time

I went to Orlando today with Jennifer so she could look at a car and so we could go to IKEA. Avaree and Jace stayed home with James since he was off. This was the first time that he had Jace all alone for more than an hour. I was a little nervous to be leaving him for so long, although I knew they would be fine. (Even though I wouldn't be!) I left around 7:15 this morning, after changing Jace and making his bottle for Daddy to feed him. Avaree was still asleep. I called a few times to check on them during the day and I finally got home around 9:00 tonight. They did great, James even had the bottles washed (even though he didn't do anything else! lol). I enjoyed having some 'me' time but I really did miss my babies, and Jace even looked like he had grown while I was gone. I'm proud of James for doing so well on his first day alone with 2 kids! And I think it was good for all three of them.

2 Months!

Happy 2 months baby boy!

Jace is 2 months old today and he's getting to be such a big boy! He's so alert and he LOVES his big sister! He is always staring at her! If no one else can make him smile, she can! He's so alert and is holding his head up very well. He's so sturdy and strong and he likes to stand. He thinks he's grown, I have to keep telling him he's not! He wants to sit up and see what is going on. He's wearing size 1 diapers, although he is about to outgrow them. We use cloth while we are at home and we love them! I'll post about that later. He's wearing 0-3 months clothes, some are still big on him though.

He is taking 5 ounces every 3-4 hours during the day and 6 ounces before bed. We add rice cereal to his bottles (per doctor's orders) for reflux. He spits up a lot and thickening it helps him keep it down a little. He is still sleeping through the night and has been for a while now. We swaddle him at night but we keep his arms out because he likes them around his face. I tried unswaddled one night and he didn't sleep as well.

We had his 2 month doctor visit on Thursday. He was 11 lb 4 oz (65th percentile), 23.7" long (85-90th percentile), and his head was 15.4" (50th percentile). He's growing so fast! He got three shots and also took the rotavirus vaccine by mouth. He loved that and was smacking his lips! He was such a big boy with the shots. He only cried for a second after each one. The last one was the worst but as soon as I picked him up, he stopped crying. And that night when I took off the bandaids, he didn't even flinch! He's my tough little guy!

I took this video while waiting on the doctor. I'm telling you, he thinks he's grown! He was doing this all on his own, James was just holding him up.

What's happened so far at 2 months:

-First time in a pool

-Tried out the Bumbo seat and loved it!

-Lots of smiling and talking
